History of Rose Garden

Rose Garden is situated in Sector 16 Chandigarh, India. Rose garden is also known as Zakir Hussain.  Dr. Zakir Hussain was 3rd  President of India. The Garden was established in 1967 under the guidance of Chandigarh’s first chief commissioner, the Late Dr. M.S. Randhawa. Zakir Hussain rose garden is the biggest rose garden in Asia. This garden is spread over 40.25 Acres and has more than 40000 plants representing some 825 varieties of Roses.

This park is maintained by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh with the help of 70 employees. This park provides

This nursery is a part of the city’s horticultural department. The nursery also serves as a research center for rose cultivation, where new and innovative techniques are developed to improve the quality of rose plants.

In addition to the extensive collection of roses, the nursery also features a range of other flora, such as seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees. This nursery also conducts various workshops and training programs for gardeners and horticultural students to educate them on rose cultivation and other gardening techniques.

1st April to 30th September 5.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.

And 1st October to 31st March 6.a.m to 8.00 p.m.

This is the official time to visit the Rose Garden but there is no restriction. You can visit this place any time.

Best Time to visit Rose Garden

If you want to completely explore the rose garden then must visit this park during the month of February during the Rose festival. But remember one thing during the Rose Festival this place becomes crowded and you can face parking problems if you are coming in your personal Car.

Rose Festival in Chandigarh

The Rose Festival in Chandigarh is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. This is a 3-day festival that is celebrated in the month of February last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every year when the city is full of vibrant colors and sweet fragrances of roses.

During the festival, the garden is decorated with colorful lights, and various cultural programs, competitions, and exhibitions are held. This festival attracts a number of visitors from different parts of the country and abroad.

One of the most popular events of the Rose Festival is the Rose Prince and princess competition, in which children between the ages of 5 to 12 years participate. The participants are dressed in colorful costumes, and the winners are crowned with floral tiaras.

Another highlight of the festival is the Flower competition, where different varieties of roses are judged based on their color, fragrance, and beauty. The competition is open to all and is a great platform for rose enthusiasts to showcase their skills.

The Rose Garden is located in Sector 16 of Chandigarh, near Taj Hotel Chandigarh. Here are some ways to reach the garden.

1 By Bus. Chandigarh has a well-connected local bus service that covers all major areas of the city, including the Rose Garden. There are two mazer bus stands in Chandigarh 43 bus stands and 17 bus stands. The distance from the 43-bus stand to the rose garden is 7 km and the 17-bus stand is only 1 km far from the rose garden which can be covered by walking. There is also one underpass that connects the Rose Garden to the famous 17-sector market.

2 By Taxi or Bike Taxi: – You can also hire an online Taxi or Bike Taxi to reach Rose Garden. There are many online taxi and Bike Taxi services providers like OLA, UBER, Rapido, and InDrive in Chandigarh. The charges for the Taxi can be 100 or 150 in Bike Taxi it can be 50 to 70 Rs depending on the online Taxi operator.

3 By Auto or Rickshaw- Auto and Rickshaws are popular modes of transportation in Chandigarh and can be used to reach the Rose Garden. The fare is usually negotiable, but it’s important to agree on the fare before boarding the auto or rickshaw. Approximately they charge 10 Rs for 2 or 3 km if the Auto is running. But if you doing special Auto then the price can be different.

4 By Train: – Chandigarh is also well connected by Railway. The nearest railway station is Chandigarh Railway Station which is 7 Km far from Rose Garden.

1 Plucking of flowers is strictly prohibited.

2 Please use concrete footpaths for walking & protect the grassy surface.

3 The entry of cycles & other vehicles is prohibited.

4 Smoking is not allowed.

5 Use of loudspeakers, loud music, holding of public meetings, fairs, functions &shootings are not permitted.

6 Cooking, lighting of the fire, use of the stove, pitching of tents, and canopies ETC, are prohibited.

7 Playing of outdoor games such as Cricket, Volley-ball, and Wrestling is not allowed

8 Dogs & other pet animals are not allowed.

9 Please throw litter in the Bins provide at various places.
